Mr. President, Call You Lawyer
“I'll tell you what they're upset about. They're
upset about being lied to in the affidavits that come before them. The 4th
Circuit is upset about being lied to in the Padilla case. And the courts and
the judges are starting to get upset about being lied to. You know, they've
lied to the American people about many things that doesn't seem to bother
them.” – John Zwerling, attorney for Seifullah Chapman
This is where Laura O'Donnell, substituting for Matthews on “Hardball,”
interrupted: “When you say 'they,' you mean who?”
“I mean Bush and his administration. He sent in
Justice Department to tell the 4th Circuit they had to hold this man without
a trial, without any type of due process, because he was going to be a dirty
bomber. Turns out they dont have the evidence for that, based on their indictments.
- John Zwerling
On “Hardball” today we got a good look at where Snoopgate is leading.
A terrorist who admitted trying to blow up the Brooklyn Bridge may soon announce
he is suing President Bush, because of the illegal wiretaps the president authorized
to be used without the FISA court's permission.
We're about to find out on what our democratic republic stands and if we're
willing to back up our Constitution and the rule of law with the patience and
fairness designed to protect even those who would destroy our way of life. Even
when our laws are used against our government, who acted illegally, are American
citizens willing to allow known terrorists to get a just trial, even though
they want to destroy our way of life?
